It is difficult to compare mathematical journals especially those belongs to different type of mathematics, for example, one is algebra and other is analysis. As such, I just consider general mathematical journals, specialized journals will be ignored. In addition, I try to use groups to classify journals, I mean, within a group, journals are being considered as the same level.
For the reader’s convenience, I shall put two number right beside the title of the journal to indicate Impact Factor and 5-Year Impact Factor of year 2010.
Level 1 (top journals)
- Acta Mathematica (4.864/4.158)
- Annals of Mathematics (3.179/3.721)
- Inventiones mathematicae (2.443/2.785)
- Journal of the American Mathematical Society (3.411/3.604)
- Publications Mathématiques de l’IHÉS (2.500/2.364)
Level 2 (still top journals but slightly weaker than those above)
- Annales Scientifiques de l’École Normale Supérieure (1.226/1.714)
- Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society (2.303/3.487)
- Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics (2.463/3.873)
- Duke Mathematical Journal (1.411/1.760)
Level 3 (good journals)
- Advances in Mathematics (1.372/1.575)
- American Journal of Mathematics (1.170/1.336)
- Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik (1.200/1.360)
- Mathematische Annalen (1.092/1.170)
- Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society (2.491/2.644)
- Proceedings London Mathematical Society (1.243/1.318)
Level 4 (also good journals but again slighly weak than those in Level 3)
- Journal de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (1.450/1.788)
- Journal of the European Mathematical Society (1.353/1.669)
- Transactions of the American Mathematical Society (1.100/1.094)
